Bookcareers.com has reinstated its job club initiative as an online networking group, in response to unemployment in the industry caused by Covid-19.
The platform is launched in association with The Book Trade Charity.
Presentations covering topics such as writing a CV and covering letters, interview skills and industry trends will be hosted by bookcareers founder and careers consultant Suzanne Collier.
She said: "I’ve had numerous people contact me; they’ve suddenly lost their job through no fault of their own. I already supply redundancy support to a number of publishers, so I know I have the skills to help and will do my upmost to rise to this challenge.
"The bookcareers job club will be a very positive and encouraging group, despite outside circumstances. This is not the kind of group where you say ‘hello, my name is... and I’m unemployed’ but should be seen as a place to give you some focus and get a huge lift along with ideas for your job search.
“As with the previous bookcareers job club incarnation, we envisage that the members of this initiative will be first to be recruited when vacancies arise. There are already a great number of people out of work with fantastic industry skills, and we need to retain and keep that experience.”
The meetings will also feature guests from human resources and recruitment sectors.
Book Trade Charity c.e.o David Hicks said: “We are delighted to put our name to such a positive initiative at this time. Bookcareers.com are experts at providing career support for the book industry and getting people into work. Over the years we’ve seen bookcareers help countless people into employment and we are confident that everyone who participates will be in the best possible hands."
The consultations will begin in the week commencing 22nd April, and will be held on a regular basis via video communication platform Zoom.
Participants will need to register online ahead of the meeting.
