Books Kinokuniya has opened a new branch in Abu Dhabi, the chain's second store in the Middle East.
Founded in Tokyo in 1927, the brand now has bookshops across Asia, Pacific and the US. It first entered the United Arab Emirates with a Dubai store in 2008.
The Galleria Al Maryah Island store will have 150,000 books available in Arabic and English. It includes a range of exclusive editions of books such as the Taschen Ferrari title, encased in the actual motor from a Ferrari, alongside extremely limited signed and numbered editions from Haruki Murakami and Margaret Atwood.
There is also a large range of Japanese manga and associated collectable figurines, plus the largest children’s book department in Abu Dhabi.
Naoya Hirata, m.d. of Kinokuniya UAE, said: “We are so excited to expand further in the UAE. Books Kinokuniya has been a haven for booklovers in Dubai and I think our new store is simply stunning, and filled with the best books from around the world. I’m especially proud of the strong Arabic offering. Books are particularly popular at the moment and so it is timely that Abu Dhabi gets a world class bookstore.”
