Carcanet appoints John McAuliffe associate publisher

Carcanet Press has appointed Irish poet John McAuliffe associate publisher, for a period of six months. 

McAuliffe will take up the role on 1st August, and will share editorial duties with m.d. Michael Schmidt and managing editor Andrew Latimer. He will also develop new poetry and the press' classics lists.

Schmidt said: "Carcanet, and our journal PN Review, has grown over 50 years into a relatively large-scale behemoth. Covid-19 is now a 10th Muse, inspiring thousands upon thousands of aspiring poems. It will be wonderful to share this lugubrious bounty with John, and to work on our anthology, the forward list, and discuss with the team the future of the press."

McAuliffe is a poet, critic and professor of poetry at Manchester University. He founded and co-edits The Manchester Review and directs The Centre for New Writing and its Literature Live reading series. His five books, published by The Gallery Press include most recently The Kabul Olympics (2020) and The Way In, which won the 2016 Michael Hartnett Award. His translations of Bosnian poet Igor Klikovac, Stockholm Syndrome (Smith Doorstop) was a PBS Pamphlet Choice in 2019.
