Bonnier Books UK said Charkin "brings a wealth of experience". Recently Bloomsbury's executive director, and now with his own indie venture Mensch, Charkin's extensive record of executive positions across the industry include as the former chief executive of Reed International Books and Macmillan Publishers Limited.

Perminder Mann, c.e.o. of Bonnier Books UK, said: "The opportunity to bring both Richard and Emilie onto our board is a thrilling one. Despite the unusual backdrop of the past few months, these distinguished new board members signal a new era of continued growth for our business."
Charkin said: "To take on a new role in the middle of our worst ever health crisis, and at the age of 71, is both challenging and enormously exciting. I’ve admired the Bonnier Group for many years in many contexts and am delighted to be joining this family business."
Marneur added: "I am thrilled to be joining such an illustrious company and leadership group. I very much look forward to working alongside Perminder, whose energy and ambitions for the business I find truly inspiring; Richard, for whom I have the utmost respect; and the rest of the Bonnier Books team."
Jim Zetterlund, chairman of Bonnier Books UK and chief operating officer/chief finance officer of Bonnier Books, said: "Under Perminder’s leadership, the English language and UK market continue to be important growth areas for Bonnier Books. I’m delighted we’re boosting this growth yet further with the addition of Richard and Emilie, two prestigious and experienced board members."
Charkin and Marneur join the Bonnier Books UK board following the departure of Magnus Janson and Eva Norén earlier in the year.
