Hachette authors including Graham Norton, David Mitchell, Victoria Hislop and Cressida Cowell are helping to mark Independent Bookshop Week in a new campaign.
The campaign will feature a series of videos where the writes will reveal the books they read during lockdown and why indie bookshops are important to them. The footage will be shared on Hachette UK's social channels
The roster of writers also includes big names like Mark Billingham, Joanne Harris, Pete Paphides, Kate Humble, Neil Gaiman and Stig Abell.
David Shelley, c.e.o of Hachette UK, said: “As a reader, I love independent bookshops and have spent some of my happiest times browsing in them and usually walking out laden with books I never knew I needed. At Hachette, we are really proud to sponsor Independent Bookshop Week and to celebrate the reopening of many bookshops. We look forward to working with the Booksellers Association, the bookshops and a massive host of authors to make this year’s the best yet.”
Norton added: “It's so important that we support our independent bookshops right now. Not just because they're local retailers but because they're cultural outposts and community resources. My local bookshop is Bantry bookshop and I love going in there because just seeing what books they've selected to put on the tables introduces me to titles and stories and authors I would not have found.”
Independent Bookshop Week takes place from 20th to 27th June.
