Laura Jones, co-founder of 404 Ink, is joining Liverpool indie Dead Ink as interim publisher this month as director Nathan Connolly prepares to take parental leave.
Connolly will continue to work in position until January 2021 at which point he will take time off for the birth of his first child. In the run up to that time Jones will begin gradually taking over responsibilities before taking over the management of the press on a temporary basis. She will also continue in her role at 404.
Jones is a publishing freelance and is also on the board of industry network body Publishing Scotland. She joins Dead Ink on 16th November when she will be available via Laura@deadinkbooks.com.
She said: “I’ve followed Dead Ink’s work for years and they’ve always been something of a publishing role model to me so I’m thrilled to be joining the team to help with their awesome work into 2021. Only a pandemic can bring about the opportunity to run two publishing companies at once so I look forward to juggling all the Inks, Dead and 404.”
Connolly added: “As I’m about to become a dad for the first time, during a pandemic, and with Brexit looming over us, it was vital that I find someone that knows what they are doing and is a reliable pair of hands with plenty of experience. Laura knows independent publishing inside out and I know that Dead Ink will be safe with her running things.”
