W H Allen editorial director Jamie Joseph has been promoted to head of the Ebury imprint.
His new role will see Joseph have “more ownership over” W H Allen, working closely with deputy publisher Drummond Moir to conceive and deliver an ambitious strategy for the imprint that builds on the list he helped create.
The firm said, since joining, he had “acquired, edited and published books that have cemented W H Allen’s reputation as a destination for compelling, smart non-fiction.” Titles have included Costa Book of the Year and Sunday Times besteller The Volunteer by Jack Fairweather and James O’Brien’s bestseller How to be Right.
Before joining PRH in 2014, Joseph had been senior commissioning editor for John Murray and editorial director at William Collins.
Moir said: “Jamie combines astute editorial judgement with savvy commercial sensibility. He always has his ear to the ground, and is admirably persistent in his pursuit of talent. He works with his authors tirelessly on the page, and has proven he can deliver prize-winning books and knockout commercial propositions.
“He is also a very versatile publisher, easily able to pivot from provocative politics and page-turning history to beautiful gift books and major US heavyweights such as Adam Grant. He also has a very international outlook and nurtures his own burgeoning network of contacts outside of the publishing world.”
