Independent Canbury Press has appointed Katharine Nelson to the newly created position of director of sales, marketing and publicity.
Nelson was previously director of trade marketing and publicity at Lonely Planet, and before that in marketing roles at Palgrave Macmillan and Bloomsbury.
Nelson joins Canbury m.d. Martin Hickman who has run the company, which specialises in topical non-fiction, since 2013. The appointment is said to be part of an ambitious growth plan for the independent press, with several key releases planned for the second half of 2020.
Hickman said: "Canbury is growing fast and we have big plans for the future. Katharine's top-flight experience and skills will be crucial in driving that expansion."
This week Canbury publishes Generation Rent: Why You Can't Buy a Home (Or Even Rent a Good One) by Chloe Timperley. The author won the contract after a public competition run by the publisher on social media.
