Mostly Books podcast to return in new year after publisher support

Mostly Books has lined up a second series of its podcast, featuring a host of authors talking about their favourite books.

The bookshop in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, first launched “Mostly Books Meets…” as a passion project during lockdown, providing an alternative to physical and virtual events.

Publishers were quick to get involved and, when the first 15 episodes finish in December, it will have featured writers including Elizabeth Day, Emma Gannon, Tom Kerridge, Heather Morris and Robert Harris.

Sarah Dennis, owner of Mostly Books and producer of the podcasts, explained: “We wanted to do something different from Zoom events, which were completely saturated in lockdown, and so we decided to create a podcast as a way to talk to authors about their books and the reading recommendations they had for others. The concept has evolved into some really touching conversations, and we have noticed listeners go on to buy the books that have been talked about in the episodes.”

Presented, edited and produced entirely in-house by the team at the bookshop, the podcast asks every guest about the books that have been special to them, from their childhood favourite, to the book that changed their life.

Now the team have secured enough publisher support to return for a second run in 2021.

Dennis said: “The response from the publishers has been incredible and we rapidly ran out of enough weeks to accommodate all the requests for guests. Given its success, we have confirmed a second series, which we will start recording in the new year.”
