A selection of lesser-known poems by Scottish poet and novelist Nan Shepherd are to be showcased in the latest edition of Gutter magazine.
The poems were originally found tucked into the dust jacket of a first edition of 1977's A Living Mountain, which details Shepherd's expeditions into the Cairngorm Mountains.
The first edition and the poems were donated to the Scottish Poetry Library. The librarian Toni Velikova shared them with Henry Bell and Kate MacLeary, editors of the Glasgow-based literary magazine.
The poems were previously published two years ago, in Wild Geese, a collection edited by Charlotte Peacock (Galileo). Gutter magazine initially believed the poems to have been hitherto unpublished, but have subsequently corrected their statement.
The new issue of Gutter magazine will be released on 27th September. MacLeary said the editors were "delighted" with the issue which, as well as the Shepherd poems, is "packed with engaging, haunting and truly memorable new writing.”
