NetGalley has added audiobook support to its platform and launched its first app allowing members to read and listen to its content.
In the UK and US, audiobook publishers will now be able to distribute early review copies via NetGalley.
Audiobooks are already available from UK publishers including HarperCollins, Hachette, Pan Macmillan and Simon & Schuster.
Assistant director Stuart Evers said: “Over the last decade, NetGalley has helped publishers increase the exposure of their books, gather important feedback, and better understand their market, and I’m hugely excited that we will now be able to offer the same service to audio publishers.
“Our members are thrilled that they will be able to request audio titles, and be part of an even wider discussion about books.”
Meanwhile, the new NetGalley Shelf app enables people to read digital review copies, and is the exclusive way to listen to audiobooks made available on the platform. The app, the first from NetGalley, is available for free via the Apple and GooglePlay stores.
C.e.o. Fran Toolan explained: “NetGalley members and publishers who utilise the service (and our own team) have long been asking for an app. The NetGalley Shelf app, combined with the existing web platform, now provides our members with the entire value chain from the discovery of new works through the reading and listening experience. The NetGalley Shelf app is secure and seamlessly syncs with each member's existing NetGalley account. It also provides a great reading experience for highly illustrated titles.”
