Quercus has unveiled Greenfinch, a new imprint "driven by bright ideas that answer a need".
After revealing that a non-fiction imprint was in the works a year ago, Quercus has now revealed the name, Greenfinch, saying its books will provide a fresh perspective on the natural world, wellness, science and travel, whether that’s how to protect the environment from your garden, rethinking your mental wellbeing, understanding the evolution of life, or planning eco-conscious trips at home and abroad.
Heading up the new imprint is Kerry Enzor, who was previously publisher of Aurum Press, later part of White Lion Publishing, creating and publishing non-fiction illustrated books for the international market. Prior to that, she was a commissioning editor for Quercus. The team also comprises commissioning editor Philippa Wilkinson, who also came to Quercus from Quarto, where she started out as an intern and rose up to commission her own list of titles, with a focus on wellbeing and trends.
"I know from personal experience that Quercus is a very special publisher, so coming back and setting up this list is both a huge privilege and a career high," said Enzor. "I am tremendously excited by our first wave of Greenfinch books and what we can achieve next with the support of the brilliant team at Quercus."
Enzor and Wilkinson have between them bought more than 25 titles for Greenfinch’s new list. Highlights include wildlife-friendly gardening book Rewild Your Garden by "Gardeners' World" presenter Frances Tophill (published in hardback and e-book on 20th August); A Toolkit for Modern Life: 53 Ways to Look After Your Mind by clinical psychologist Dr Emma Hepburn, known on Instagram as @thepsychologymum (publishing 17th September); and a series of pocket wellness guides, including 2 Minutes to Sleep by Corinne Sweet (out now).
Also in the works are The Flightless Traveller, a no-fly travel guide by travel journalist Emma Gregg (publishing 8th October 2021); WFH: How to Build a Career You Love When You’re Not in The Office by broadcaster and careers coach Harriet Minter (publishing 4th April 2021); and The Earth: A Biography of Life by Oxford palaeontologist Dr Elsa Panciroli (publishing 1st September 2021).
Quercus m.d. Jon Butler commented: "Kerry is a hugely energetic, creative publisher and I’m thrilled to welcome her back to Quercus with this box-fresh, quick-to-market list of lifestyle and reference titles, many of the ideas for which are generated in-house. Quercus has grown very quickly over the past five years, and the launch of Greenfinch shows our ambition to keep up that pace of growth in new genres, but in a very Quercus way: with wit and style, always looking for books that will surprise and delight the broadest possible readership wherever they are in the world."
The new imprint is the first for Quercus since 2016, when it launched its upmarket fiction and non-fiction imprint riverrun.
