Non-essential shops will be closed in Wales from the end of Christmas Eve trading as part of fresh lockdown restrictions, it has been announced.
The restrictions, which also include leisure facilities, will come into force on 24th December. Hospitality venues, including pubs and restaurants, will be closed from 6 p.m. the following day.
On 28th December, new stay-at-home rules will be introduced for the wider public as part of a move to “Level Four” restrictions across the country.
The restrictions will be reviewed after three weeks but no end date has been announced.
Welsh first minister Mark Drakeford said, in the run-up to Christmas, everyone who can work from home should do so and councils would have to take decisions on services such as libraries.
He added: “The situation we are facing is extremely serious. We must move to alert Level Four and tighten the restrictions to control the spread of coronavirus and save lives.”
