Niamh Murray is to leave Profile on 17th March after 16 years with the company, most recently as campaigns director, leading a 10-strong team of marketing and publicity experts.
The company has seen a period of growth since Murray stepped into the role in January 2021, with publications including Detransition Baby by Torrey Peters, Butler to the World by Oliver Bullough and Between Two Hells by Diarmaid Ferriter. She has led campaigns for Ryan Holiday, Alan Bennett (shared with Faber) and Robert Greene’s publishing. Profile’s UK TCM turnover increased to over £12m in 2022 and gained it a place in the top 20 UK publishers for the first time in its history.
Publisher Andrew Franklin said: “Niamh has been completely brilliant for 16 years and behind our most impressive and exciting campaigns, including The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward. She has made a difference right across the business and has always been a force for good.
"She is tenacious, hard-working, a fair and supportive manager, an ideas generator and a problem-solver. She is a wonderful colleague and a great friend to many of us. We will miss her enormously.”
Murray added: “I came to Profile as an assistant, along with the furniture and fittings from Serpent’s Tail, having started there shortly before the takeover. I told myself I’d give it six months and see how it panned out. Somehow, 16 years have passed, and along the way there have been exceptional books, an enviable roster of brilliant authors, some truly superb growth and publishing – and the most fun, dedicated and talented group of colleagues anyone could ask for.
“But I have missed being hands-on and closer to the books on the creative side, and I look forward to new challenges, after what feels like a well-earned break. I want to thank Profile for all of the opportunities and its faith in me over my career, and I look forward to showing up at the summer party for many years to come.”
