The British Book Awards (a.k.a. the Nibbies) will now take place on 29th June 2020 at The J W Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel in central London. Shortlists for the awards, now in their 30th year, are being announced this week, and are included in a special supplement published with The Bookseller on Friday (20th March).
The awards have moved from their original date of 18th May 2020 as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, which has disrupted many events and public gatherings. The decision to postpone the event was taken in full-co-operation with partners and sponsors.
All tickets purchased for the 18th May remain valid for the 29th June awards, with table bookings for the revised date now being accepted. In the event of a further postponement, ticket costs are refundable.
Nigel Roby, chief executive and publisher of Bookseller Media which runs the annual event, said: "The Nibbies are the night of the year when we can all celebrate the best books, publishers and bookshops. It is central to the book trade and central to The Bookseller. We don’t have a crystal ball but all of us hope fervently that we can get together on 29th June and enjoy the success and resilience of Britain’s leading creative industry."
Further details about the event, and shortlists can be found here. Any further announcements will be made well ahead of the June event, and will follow government guidance.
