Nicky Old has been appointed director of communications at the Publishers Association (PA) and will take up the role in late September.
She is currently director of communications at the Local Government Association (LGA).
Old has previously held roles at Universities UK, the Department for Education, the University of Oxford and as a journalist and bookseller.
Ruth Howells, PA’s current director of communications, has worked at the association for over six years and is leaving at the end of July to relocate to Yorkshire.
Old said: “As a former journalist, bookseller and literature graduate whose career has focused on education and learning, I feel honoured to be joining the team at the Publishers Association early this autumn. I believe that publishers are a force for good, and are more important than ever in the polarised times that we live in. I look forward to working with the Publishers Association’s brilliant membership to help champion and celebrate the UK’s world-leading publishing industry through bold and authentic communications.”
Dan Conway, c.e.o. of the PA, added: “Nicky has a wealth of relevant experience which will be of huge value to our team and our members, and I’m looking forward to working with her when she joins later this year.”
