Independent children’s publisher Nosy Crow has opened submissions for graphic novels from writers and writer-illustrators, to kickstart the addition of graphic novels to its list.
Creators are invited to submit illustrations along with their graphic novel stories throughout August and September.
The submissions will be reviewed by editors and designers in the Nosy Crow fiction team. Texts must be suitable for children aged five to 12, covering any fiction genre, and can feature human, animal or fantasy characters. The stories can be accompanied by artwork either in black and white or full colour.
Submissions are free and can be sent from anywhere in the world, but must be written in the English language and be previously unpublished, while writers must be aged 18 or older.
Publishing director for fiction Kirsty Stansfield said: "We’re thrilled to be holding an open submissions for graphic novels. There’s a real love for the genre from readers of all ages and we want to find the most brilliant and the most exciting creatives out there! We’re hugely looking forward to seeing what comes through the door."
The submissions window ends at midnight on 30th September. More information and full details of how to submit can be found here.
“As a long-time reader of graphic novels, I’m so pleased to be running this open submissions window for graphic novel creators and I am looking forward to receiving brilliant stories that nurture a love for reading," Halimah Manan, assistant editor, added. "With the growth of graphic novels in the market, now feels like the perfect time to bring this format to our list and we hope that holding open submissions will make it easier for creators to reach us."
