Former US President Barack Obama has released a 15-strong list of his favourite books of the year, spanning memoir, fiction and non-fiction, including Booker Prize-shortlisted This Other Eden by Paul Harding (Hutchinson Heinemann), The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store by James McBride (W&N) and The Maniac by Benjamin Labatut (Pushkin).
Other picks included How to Say Babylon by Safiya Sinclair (Fourth Estate), Chip War by Chris Miller (Simon & Schuster UK), The Vaster Wilds by Lauren Groff (Hutchinson Heinemann) and Humanly Possible by Sarah Bakewell (Chatto & Windus).

Matthew Desmond’s Poverty, By America (Allen Lane), David Grann’s The Wager (Simon & Schuster UK) Jonathan Eig’s King: The Life of Martin Luther King (Simon & Schuster UK) and S A Cosby’s All The Sinners Bleed (Headline) were also selected, having previously been on Obama’s summer reading list.
The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese (Grove Press UK) was also selected alongside The Best Minds by Jonathan Rosen (Allen Lane).
The Kingdom, The Power, and The Glory by Tim Alberta (Harper) and Some People Need Killing by Patricia Evangelista (Grove Press UK) complete the list.
