British actor Indira Varma, known for appearances in "Game of Thrones", "Obi Wan" and "Extrapolations", will read the audiobook of Emma Forrest’s upcoming memoir.
Busy Being Free, scheduled for publication by W&N on 18th August 2022, is a memoir about what happens when your story doesn’t end the way you thought it would, the publisher says.
The synopsis explains: "When the dream life you have been working towards becomes something you must walk away from. When you swap a Hollywood marriage and a LA mansion for a little attic flat in North London shared only with your daughter. When, after a life guided by romantic obsession, you decide to turn your back not only on marriage, but all romantic and sexual attachments. When you find yourself not lonely, but elated – elated to be alone with yourself."
Varma, who has also starred in numerous theatre productions and won the 2020 Olivier Award for Supporting Role for "Present Laughter" at The Old Vic, said: “After reading an early proof copy of Emma Forrest’s memoir I was keen to read the audiobook as I feel determined to do justice to its brilliance.”
Forrest has previously written columns in the Guardian, Independent and Elle. By 30 she had published three novels and exited journalism to work in Hollywood as a screenwriter. She wrote and directed her first feature "Untogether", which premiered at the Tribeca Film festival. Her most recent novel, Royals (Bloomsbury Circus), was a Radio 2 Book Club pick.
The publisher also announced that Robert Montgomery, an artist known for his site-specific installations made of light and text, has designed the book jacket.
Montgomery created one of his iconic light sculptures featuring the book’s title and shot an image of it on Pett Level Beach, East Sussex.
His piece “The People You Love Become Ghosts Inside of You” has been shared online more than 200 million times.
