An open invitation from figures including Nikesh Shukla and Yara Rodrigues Fowler has been issued for people in the trade to form a group that will "change the UK publishing industry for the better".
The invite is encouraging editors, authors and others to participate in a Zoom meeting next month, discussing the improvements that need to be made in the industry and "build the collective power" for change.
An announcement posted on the Bad Form Review website on 9th September reads: "We are editors, authors and other workers in publishing, bookselling and libraries in the UK.
"We believe in justice and liberation for all people, including LGBTQ people, women, Black, Asian and all racialised communities, disabled people and working-class people. We are coming together to organise and build the collective power we need to change the UK publishing industry for the better."
The first meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on 6th October, and will include live captions and a BSL interpreter, if required. Those wishing to participate should sign up in advance.
The invite has been signed by Shukla, Rodrigues Fowler, Chitra Soundar, Shukla, Louie Stowell, and Amy Mae Baxter, editor-in-chief of Bad Form Review.
"This is an initial meeting to garner interest in creating a group to bring change in publishing and discuss work already in progress across the industry,” the group said in a statement.
