Orchard buys second Santiago picture book

Orchard Books, part of Hachette Children’s Group (HCG), will this July publish I Really Want That Unicorn, a new picture book by Fabi Santiago.

The story focuses on Chloe the Crocodile, who is confident she will win the ‘Mellow Yellow Unicorn’ at a talent show until Veronica arrives and appears to better than her at everything.

Commissioning editor Emily Lamm bought world rights (in all languages) from Alice Williams at David Higham Associates and will publish in hardback in July. A paperback edition will follow in October.

“Picture books don’t get much more stylish and funny than this one,” said Lamm. “I Really Want That Unicorn showcases Fabi’s brilliant flair for characterisation, while offering a great message about friendship and tapping into the ongoing unicorn trend.”

I Really Want That Unicorn is Santiago’s second picture book with Orchard. Her first title, Tiger in a Tutu, was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize in 2017.
