Oscar Janson-Smith has been promoted to senior literary agent at Gleam Futures.
Janson-Smith joined the agency in December 2021 after three years as an agent at Kruger Cowne, and sold over 20 titles in his first year, spanning adult non-fiction, fiction, children’s and cookery.
Recent deals include an initially self-published book on ADHD, Dirty Laundry, by husband and wife TikTok team Roxanne Emery and Richard Pink, which was pre-empted by Square Peg, and a picture book by teenage vegan chef Omari McQueen illustrated by Sophia Green, sold to Scholastic.
Adam Strange, head of publishing at Gleam Futures, said: “Oscar is a hugely talented agent, identifying opportunities both on and off the Gleam roster and acting with relentless pace and passion to secure deals, while always making himself available for his authors whenever they need him.
“He brings a combination of generous collaboration and entrepreneurial attitude to Gleam that makes him a joy to work with, and I couldn’t be more delighted to be able to recognise his contribution in this way.”
Janson-Smith commented: “While I’m slightly worried by how addicted I am to this job, I am loving every minute of it, and could not be happier at Gleam – it’s a truly amazing place to work, and I am forever appreciative of the freedom I am granted do my job. I’m thrilled to be essentially continuing to do exactly the same thing as I have been, but with the word ‘senior’ now added to my email signature.”
