Madeleine O’Shea has been appointed to the newly created role of publishing director of the Mantle imprint at Pan Macmillan.
As publishing director O’Shea will concentrate on building her own list of authors in the historical fiction and reading group areas, nurturing and growing Mantle’s reputation.
O’Shea will join the company on 30th October, reporting to Mantle publisher Maria Rejt, after a decade-long editorial career at Head of Zeus, most recently as editorial director for Apollo Fiction and acting publishing director for fiction, where she has published Pachinko by Min Jin Lee (Apollo) and Elodie Harper’s Wolf Den Trilogy (Apollo).
Pan publisher Lucy Hale said: “Mantle is a jewel in Pan’s crown, publishing brilliant, wholly absorbing fiction by some of our best storytellers. I am delighted that Madeleine is joining us, working with Maria to bring new authors to the list. We have big ambitions for Mantle which Madeleine, with her impeccable publishing taste and flair, is going to play a major role in delivering.”
Rejt commented: “Madeleine’s commitment to her authors and her inspirational passion for the books she publishes bring amazing results and she will be key to Mantle’s growth and success in the years to come."
O’Shea added: “I have had 10 very happy years at Head of Zeus, but the opportunity to work with Maria and the wider Pan team proved irresistible. While I’ll miss my authors and colleagues hugely, I’m looking forward to the future at Mantle and the possibilities it presents.”
