Bonnier Books UK has promoted Susannah Otter to publishing director of non-fiction imprint Blink while Sarah Bauer steps up to become editorial director of fiction imprint Zaffre with immediate effect.
Formerly editorial director, Otter joined in 2019 and has acquired and published an array of titles including Katherine Ryan’s The Audacity. Upcoming projects include the late Tom Parker’s memoir Hope, Sarah Hughes’ posthumous Holding Tight, Letting Go, Anita Bhagwanda’s Ugly, and Sandra Lawrence’s Miss Willmott’s Ghosts.
Otter said: “I am so pleased and honoured to be making this next step at Bonnier. Together with my hugely talented team, we continue to build a far-reaching, ambitious list for commercial non-fiction with integrity and heart.”
Bauer, formerly senior editor, joined Bonnier from Orion in 2016, and has published Lex Croucher’s Reputation, Caroline Day’s Hope Nicely’s Lessons for Life, and Helly Acton’s The Couple, alongside steering the success of authors such as Anton du Beke and Rosie Goodwin.
She said: “The last five years working at Bonnier have been brilliant. I’m incredibly lucky to work with some of the most wonderful authors and agents and such passionate, talented and supportive colleagues. I’m excited to continue introducing readers to stories and writers they’ll love.”
Kate Parkin, managing director of adult trade publishing, said: “We’re thrilled to announce this pair of key promotions. Since joining us over two years ago Susannah has brought her immaculate taste, boundless energy and publishing verve to Bonnier Books UK. She combines an eye for good writing with sharp commercial acumen and—as one of the best-connected editors in publishing—a keen nose for industry buzz.
“Tireless, passionate about her authors and the wider list and endlessly creative, Sarah has a real eye for exciting IP fiction projects. Her market awareness has led to brilliant acquisitions and her exemplary author care and outstanding publishing sets a high bar.
“Their promotions reflect the value of their contributions so far as well as their integral roles in the growth of Bonnier Books UK as we move into the next phase of our development.”
