Susannah Otter has joined Bonnier Books UK in the newly created role of editorial director of commercial non-fiction lists Blink Publishing, 535 and Lagom.
After starting out at Chatto & Windus and then Square Peg, Otter was most recently commissioning editor at Quadrille Publishing, where she published a diverse, commercial list including narrative non-fiction.
While at Quadrille, Otter published Brutally Honest from Spice Girl Mel B, An Edited Life by Anna Newton, and What a Time to Be Alone by Chidera Eggerue.
Matt Phillips, publisher of Blink and John Blake, said: “Susannah is a superstar. I’ve been a big fan of her publishing for many years and it has been an absolute joy to watch from a distance as she has grown into an astute, commercially savvy and fearlessly creative publisher. Susannah will bring her incredible energy, boundless intelligence and unimpeachable eye for a bestseller to our burgeoning team. I can’t wait to start working with her.”
Kate Parkin, managing director of adult trade publishing at Bonnier Books UK, said: “What I really love about Susannah is her range of interests – from Mel B to Simon Amstell, and from memoir and smart self help to cookery. Her energy, spark, commercial sense and creativity are truly invigorating and I’m very excited to be adding her talents to those of our outstanding non-fiction team.”
Otter said: “I’ve long admired Bonnier Books UK for their impeccable publishing across both non-fiction and fiction, and their ability to look to, and engage with, the challenges of the future. I will miss my authors and colleagues at Quadrille and am immensely proud of what we have achieved in two (short) years. Joining Kate, Matt and the team at Bonnier is an irresistible next step, and I can't wait to get started.”
Otter will join the company in January, reporting to Phillips.
