Education publisher Oxford University Press (OUP) has announced that any school in England that places an order directly from OUP will receive 20% of all English Language and Maths Oxford Revise guides for free. The aim is to enable teachers to give the guides to students that would benefit most, which is in line with OUP’s aim to champion "revision equity".
The Oxford Revise series guides are available for the subjects of maths, science, geography, history, religious studies and computer science, with English language following soon. They are centred on a three-step "Knowledge, Retrieval, Practice" approach, aimed at helping students develop the knowledge and skills required for GCSE success, as well as KS3 and A Level for some subjects.
According to the publisher, the two subjects that will be given to schools for free were selected due to research suggesting disadvantaged young people on average achieve lower grades across GCSE English and Maths compared to their peers. Schools will also receive 50% off the r.r.p. when buying direct from Oxford University Press.
OUP has launched the Oxford Revise website, which includes free planners, podcasts, videos, study tips and more to support students. The site also features a podcast mini-series and revision tip videos from influencer and science content creator, Big Manny.
Becki Bradshaw, head of revision at Oxford Education, said: “The Oxford Revise team is determined to make revision fairer. We also recognise the increased financial pressures that both schools and parents face right now, which is why we’re taking steps to ensure all students have more equal access to learning resources.
"Our revision guides have been created in collaboration with experts in cognitive science, as well as subject experts. Each guide is based on a straightforward three-step approach, which makes revision simple and effective for all students. Our aim is to make revision as accessible as possible to help students do their best in their exams.”
The publisher has also launched a revision week for teachers starting today (Monday 25th September). This features virtual sessions sharing best practice for supporting students through exams and helping them to develop a revision strategy.
