To coincide with the publication this week of Paul Westmoreland’s gothic-inspired werewolf adventure series Rudy, Oxford University Press (OUP) is launching a PR and marketing campaign including advertising across the London Underground.
OUP senior commissioning editor Clare Whitston acquired the series, which kicks off with Rudy and the Wolf Cub and Rudy and the Monster at School, from Gill McLay at the Bath Literary Agency in April. The stories are illustrated by George Ermos and both will be published on 6th October. More books are scheduled for 2023 and beyond.
The series features Rudy, a skateboarding young werewolf who has a keen nose for adventure and a strong sense of loyalty. Powered by his faithful friendships with Edie, a ghost, and Femi, a mummy, and a belief that kindness and empathy for others will always win the day, Rudy’s impulsive and mischievous nature lead him to embark on a series of adventures.
For publication week, Rudy will be advertised across London Underground appearing on billboards in Oxford Circus, Covent Garden, Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square and other major stations.
The wide-reaching marketing campaign will also feature content across Sky Video on Demand and YouTube, as well as a host of influencer activity across a variety of platforms.
Point-of-sale material will be available for bookshops including standees, personalised bookmarks and stickers, along with fun-filled activity sheets for children. The publisher is also working with PR agency Midas on a far-reaching publicity campaign for launch.
Deborah Sims, editor at OUP for the Rudy series, said: “We are so pleased to be introducing young readers to Rudy and his friends this autumn in our major new young fiction series launch. Paul has created an inspiring and relatable friend in Rudy, brought to life by George’s brilliant illustrations.
"We wanted to create a huge and far-reaching campaign to ensure we bring Rudy to as many children as possible and demonstrate the exciting potential of the series. The Rudy books will be a staple on all bookshelves, for Halloween and beyond!”
