Benedicte Page, The Bookseller’s deputy editor, is to leave the trade magazine after 25 years with the business, following an editorial restructure. She will depart at the end of April.
Page joined in 1999 as books editor, a role she occupied for nine years, later moving to the news team and being promoted to news editor. She was made deputy editor in 2013.
During the recent pandemic she combined the roles of news editor and deputy editor, and since 2023 she has also edited The Bookseller’s website.
Philip Jones, editor of The Bookseller, said: "Ben has been integral to The Bookseller for 25 years. She is a versatile, dedicated and principled journalist. Ben has excelled in three different positions – books editor, news editor and deputy editor – which demonstrates her remarkable breadth and range of skills. She will be greatly missed by myself and the team."
Page commented: "It’s been a huge pleasure to work with the brilliant Bookseller team and the incredibly creative books industry – which is why I’ve stayed with The Bookseller for a good couple of decades longer than I envisaged when I first joined. I am proud of what we have achieved during my time here, and sad to be saying goodbye. After 25 years of constant press deadlines, I am looking forward to a restorative summer sabbatical, before thinking about next steps. Meanwhile there is still a very busy spring to tackle before I go."
After Page’s departure, news editor Sian Bayley will report to Jones, along with managing editor Tom Tivnan and books editor Alice O’Keeffe.
