Vicky Palmer, currently marketing director at Transworld, has been appointed to the newly created role of creative and marketing director at Hodder & Stoughton, spearheading the division’s creative direction in what the publisher describes as the “future-facing” role.
Palmer will leave Transworld on October 20th and take up her new role in early November.
Returning to Hachette UK after six years, Palmer will have direct managerial responsibility for the marketing and art teams, led by Alice Morley and Al Oliver respectively. The strategic role across both departments will put creative at the centre of every campaign at Hodder, the publisher says. Palmer will join the Hodder & Stoughton board and report directly to managing director Oliver Malcolm.
During her time at Transworld, Palmer has led campaigns across their commercial, literary and non-fiction imprints for authors including Kate Atkinson, Bill Bryson, Jilly Cooper, Sophie Kinsella and Dan Brown. This year she won Marketing Campaign of the Year at the British Book Awards for her campaign for Bonnie Garmus’ Lessons in Chemistry.
Palmer said: “I have had the happiest and most rewarding six years at Transworld – the place where I also originally started my publishing career – and leaving my colleagues and authors will be a huge wrench. But the chance to join Hodder in this exciting and strategic new role and take on a fantastic new creative challenge is one I couldn’t turn down.”
Malcolm commented: “As we look to invest in our future and deliver the very best campaigns for our authors, I can’t think of anyone better than Vicky to lead our aligned creative teams. She is smart and strategic, and not only delivers top class campaigns, but also brings incredible people skills.”
Katie Espiner, c.e.o. of Hodder and Stoughton, said: “I am delighted to be welcoming Vicky to Hodder & Stoughton and back to Hachette. This is a critical role for us as we align our talented art and marketing teams and put creativity right at the heart of our publishing.”
Hodder’s marketing director, Vickie Boff, left the company in June and can be contacted on vickieboff1@gmail.com.
