Macmillan has taken its systems offline following a “security incident”, with UK staff at Pan Macmillan also affected.
The publisher said the incident, reported to have taken place on 25th June and affecting teams on both sides of the Atlantic, involved "the encryption of certain files" on its network but did not give further details.
Pan Macmillan said in a statement: “As a precautionary measure, we immediately took systems offline to prevent further impact to our network. We are working diligently with specialists to investigate the source of this issue, understand its impact on our systems, and to restore full functionality to our networks as soon as possible.
“Customers, employees, and other third-party partners may notice that certain systems are unavailable while these efforts are under way. We appreciate your patience and understanding and apologise for any inconvenience.
“Please know the Macmillan team is working around the clock on this restoration and installation of additional network safeguards.”
Anyone wishing to contact the editorial teams at Pan Macmillan on 28th June can contact panmacadultsubmissions@gmail.com and macmillanchildrenssubmissions@gmail.com. The best way to contact Pan Macmillan more generally is via phone, the company said.
