Paramount Pictures has optioned film rights for the Ology World series published by Templar, an imprint of Kings Road Publishing.
The series includes titles such as Dragonology, Egpytology and Wizardology, which are non-fiction books published as a series of “lost” journals written in an encyclopedia formats. They are written by several different authors.
Paramount is planning on turning the 12 books into stand-alone, live action films, produced by Akiva Goldsman.
Helen Wicks, business development and group licensing director at Bonnier Publishing, said: "I was hugely impressed by the creative passion of producer, Akiva Goldsman and his team at Paramount. Their ambitious vision for the books, uniting the many Ology worlds into a magnificent universe overflowing with myths, legends and adventures, was both beguiling and persuasive. It promised to remain true to the DNA of the original titles whilst bringing them into spectacular life for the big screen."
Paramount acquired the rights directly from Templar in a deal brokered by Stephen Moore of Paul Kohner Inc and Richard Scrivener of the Creative Rights Agency.
Kings Road Publishing is part of Bonnier Publishing.
