Kate Parkin is set to leave her role as managing director of adult trade publishing at Bonnier Books UK, where she has been responsible for directing the adult trade publishing strategy across seven imprints, at the end of the year.
No further information was given on Parkin’s next move.
During her time at the company, Parkin has built the Zaffre fiction list from scratch, founded literary imprint Manilla Press and the business list Heligo Books, and overseen the merger of the fiction lists with a revitalised Blink, Lagom and John Blake.
While at Bonnier Books UK, she has acquired and published a broad range of authors, from global brands including Wilbur Smith and Lynda La Plante, and bestsellers such as Rosie Goodwin, Chris Ryan and Rory Clements, to establishing exciting new names in fiction including Christy Lefteri, T M Logan, Bennett, Robert Peston, Michael Ball and Stacey Halls.
Parkin, who has also worked with internationally bestselling author Heather Morris since the acquisition of her debut, The Tattooist of Auschwitz, said: “It has been a privilege and a pleasure to lead the adult publishing team at Bonnier for the past seven years.
“I would especially like to thank our wonderful authors – many of whom I have brought to the company — the agent and bookselling community who have been so supportive of our publishing, and of course an exceptional group of close colleagues. I shall miss them very much, but I leave behind me a clear path to growth, an exciting programme for 2023 and beyond, and my very best wishes for future success.”
Perminder Mann, c.e.o. of Bonnier Books UK, said: “I’m enormously grateful to Kate for everything she has done for the company since she joined back in 2015. Bonnier Books UK has been on an incredible journey since then and Kate’s wealth of expertise and clever, commercial and instinctive publishing have been instrumental in establishing us as a fully-fledged trade publisher.
“Personally, I have greatly admired her consistency, dedication and professionalism. She will be greatly missed, but she leaves behind a fantastic, talented team and a division primed for growth. I wish her all the very best for the future.” The company will make an announcement about Parkin’s successor “in due course”.
