404 Ink has launched the "third wave" of its non-fiction series Inklings after reaching its funding target of £10,000 in 24 hours.
Initially launched in 2021 after a successful crowdfunding campaign, the list has since garnered numerous prize nominations including a shortlisting for the Marketing Strategy of the Year at the British Book Awards and the Discover Award, which recognises an initiative which promotes underrepresented writers and/or their books, at The Bookseller’s FutureBook conference 2021.
"Each year, we’re excited to launch the new Inklings series; each year we hope to announce the crowd-funder without the caveat of how tough things are to run an independent publisher financially," said Heather McDaid co-founder and publishing director. "We’re incredibly grateful that in a time where money is particularly tight for everyone that people have so quickly and vocally supported the new books; publishers such as 404 Ink can only survive thanks to readers. We can’t wait to see how these authors and books reach and impact new people, like all those in the series before them."
The next Inkling cohort explores topics such as "Doctor Who", resistance, drill and punk music, identification technology, grief, displacement and mythology. Heather Parry, author of Orpheus Builds a Girl (Gallic Books), features with her title Electric Dreams: Sex Robots and Failed Promises of Capitalism.
