Penguin has announced that Jodie Comer, Emmy award-winning star of “Killing Eve”, will narrate the audiobook version of Prima Facie.
The story, originally a one-woman play, has been adapted by playwright Suzie Miller for the page and will be released by Heinemann, an imprint of Penguin, in audiobook, hardback and e-book form in March 2024.
“Prima Facie” first debuted at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London, with Comer, who went on to win an Olivier award for best actress. Miller also won an Olivier Award for best new play. It later transferred to Broadway and was streamed by National Theatre Live, becoming the highest grossing event cinema release ever.
Prima Facie “follows Tessa Ensler, a brilliant barrister who’s forged her career in criminal defence through sheer determination […] driven by her belief in the right to a fair trial and a taste for victory, there’s nothing Tessa loves more than the thrill of getting her clients acquitted.
“But when a date with a charismatic colleague goes horribly wrong, Tessa finds that the rules she’s always played by might not protect her, forcing her to question everything she’s ever believed in.”
On returning for the audiobook, Comer said: “It has been a joy to return to Tessa’s story while recording this audiobook. My hope is that it will reach the widest number of people, perhaps who weren’t able to see the play.”
Miller added: “I’m delighted that Jodie Comer is reprising the role of Tessa Ensler in the novel of Prima Facie. Her incomparable talent, passion and conviction were instrumental to making the play a success and I know she will bring the same dedication to storytelling to bring Tessa to life in the novel.”
