Penguin Press is to publish Matthew Goodwin's latest book This England: Nation, Identity and Belonging.
Chloe Currens, senior commissioning editor, bought UK and commonwealth rights in a deal with Charlie Brotherstone at BCM. The book will be published in the UK by Pelican.
The book explores "why Britain has been coming apart at the seams and what needs to be done to bring it back together", evaluating Brexit, populism and immigration.
Currens described the book as "powerful and necessary", saying: “In an era of intensifying polarisation, This England is a vital intervention. It speaks with equal urgency to both the left and the right as it addresses the stark divisions – between Leave and Remain, the ‘new elite’ and the ‘left behind’ – that have emerged in recent years. Matt’s bold analysis comes with a heartening vision for compromise, which might help us all navigate our radically changed political landscape for decades to come."
Goodwin is professor of political science at the University of Kent.
This England is scheduled for publication in autumn 2021.
