Tina Persaud is to join illustrated book publisher Rizzoli’s push into the UK as associate publisher. Persaud will lead the development of “cutting-edge” titles under the Rizzoli Universe imprint covering areas such as pop culture, food, gift and wellness.
Founded in New York in 1964, Rizzoli announced plans to open an editorial office, Rizzoli UK, in March, led by Stephen King, who was previously managing director of Hardie Grant.
Persaud is editorial director for Laurence King, where she is overseeing the growth of its design-led consumer book programme; before that she was publishing director for Batsford, where she launched Millie Marotta, who became a bestseller during the colouring-in boom.
Persaud will join Rizzoli UK in August and the first titles are expected in 2025. Persaud will work in unison with publishing staff in Rizzoli’s New York headquarters, as well as with Giulia di Filippo, who continues to lead Rizzoli’s commissioning of high-end interiors, fashion and art titles in the UK.
Charles Miers, overall publisher of all Rizzoli imprints, said: "We are excited to expand and strengthen with Tina our Universe program, particularly, and all our activities in the UK." King added: "Tina is a talented publisher with a keen eye on what consumers want and we are excited by her vision for the program."
Persaud said: "Rizzoli has a fantastic brand that resonates with consumers in a way that is hard to beat. I’m super excited about opening up a new pop culture market for Rizzoli with different prices and formats, but still respecting the outstanding design pedigree of the list. We’re on a mission to create beautiful books that really speak to their audience.”
