Ray Dyer, the managing director of children’s books supplier Peters Ltd, has died.
Peters, which Dyer had been an "integral part’" of for 30 years, announced the news of his "unexpected passing" today (10th October).
A statement read: "Ray was a dedicated, kind and well-respected leader, mentor and a cherished friend and colleague to many. Ray will be deeply missed by all of us and everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him. He was a passionate advocate of the value of libraries and the importance of reading and literacy. In recent years, Ray was involved with campaigns such as Great School Libraries, National Literacy Trust’s Libraries for Primary campaign, as well as hosting Peters’ own conference, Love Literacy, in 2016 and 2019, which is for educators, literacy professionals and public librarians.
"Ray played a pivotal role in making Peters what it is today, and his legacy to Peters and the wider book industry will never be forgotten."
Peters was founded in 1935, and is a specialist supplier of children’s books and furniture to schools, academies, public libraries and multi-academy trusts.
The company "works with educators to develop their reading provision, promote reading for pleasure and boost literacy levels".
