Little, Brown imprint Piatkus has landed the “smart and funny” debut novel from Hannah Tovey in a two-book deal.
Emma Beswetherick, associate publisher at the Little, Brown Book Group, acquired for world English language rights from Annette Green at Annette Green Authors’ Agency.
First book, The Education of Ivy Edwards, is described by the publisher as “a brilliant mix of 'Fleabag' and 'Gavin and Stacey'”. Out as a paperback in spring 2020, it follows a woman whose falls apart and then finds herself, though not necessarily through love.
Beswetherick said: “The confessional nature of the narrative voice gives Ivy an openness and boldness that is absolutely right for our times. Readers will fall in love with the flawed but vulnerable Welsh heroine, moving between gut-wrenching laughter and teary-eyed emotion as Ivy’s story unfolds.”
Green added: “Both Hannah and I are thrilled to have struck this deal for her first two novels with Piatkus. We were bowled over by Emma’s enthusiasm and vision for Ivy Edwards and are confident that this is the perfect home for her, promising much deserved success.”
