Picador has announced a “major expansion” of its Picador Collection, launched in 2022 to celebrate Picador’s 50th anniversary.
The publisher said the next three years would see “an ambitious re-jacketing programme of its major authors and iconic works from the last 50 years”, giving a “classic” look to what it calls its “deep backlist”.
Picador publisher Mary Mount said: “From Michael Herr’s Dispatches to Helen Fielding’s Bridget Jones’s Diary; from the works of Carol Ann Duffy to V S Naipaul, Colm Toibin, Jon Ronson and Alan Hollinghurst, Picador has published some of the best writers of the modern age.
“We will begin with more than 40 titles in 2024 and a further 40 in 2025 and the programme will continue over the years ahead. We wanted to celebrate the extraordinary range of literature on our backlist and introduce their work to a new generation of readers for the future.”
Stuart Wilson, art director, describes the Picador Collection as a place where classic writing meets classic design. “The expansion of the collection means we can enhance the broad range of art, photography and illustration beyond the initial publishing. It will now see even more creativity and scope to an already highly considered series of books,” he said.
“The overall feel for each author is highly considered, keeping an integrity to each of the titles. This means the design gives a vehicle for the artwork to speak more for itself, making them even more collectable.
"We take great pride and enjoyment from each of these covers as they’ve been a wonderful challenge to reimagine beautiful writing that speaks to new and established audiences alike. The brief behind each of the covers was how to encapsulate the essence of each of the books. The dialogue between great writing and great design has always been at the forefront of everything Picador produces. This is the pinnacle of that.”
