Picador has announced a series of promotions within its editorial team featuring Andrea Henry, Anne Meadows and Orla King.
Henry – currently editorial director – has been promoted to publishing director for non-fiction. Henry has recently published such highly-acclaimed titles such as Jenny Kleeman’s The Price of Life and Ben Judah’s This is Europe. Henry will continue to report into Picador publisher Mary Mount.
Mount said: “In her two years at Picador, Andrea has acquired and published a terrific array of non-fiction – she has leapt over the fence into fiction with the acquisition of The Secret Barrister’s thrilling first novel, The Cut-Throat Trial and acquired the ground-breaking The Science of Racism which has already garnered a fantastic US rights deal. She is key to the direction of Picador’s non-fiction publishing in the future.”
Meadows – currently editorial director – is promoted to publishing director. Since joining Picador 18 months ago, she has won a series of competitive auctions to bring new writers to Picador. Kaveh Akbar’s New York Times highly-acclaimed, bestselling novel Martyr!, published this month, Louise Hegarty’s Fair Play and Hal Ebbott’s Among Friends are among several debuts she has acquired for the list. Meadows will continue to report into Mount.
Mount said: “Anne has acquired quite brilliant fiction for Picador including prize-winning authors Gwendoline Riley and Samanta Schweblin – two of the most original and incisive writers of their generation. Anne is a vital member of the Picador editorial team and has played a huge part in shaping the fiction list as a whole.”
King – currently editor – is promoted to commissioning editor. Since joining Picador in 2021 King has overseen the publishing of bestselling author Toshikazu Kawaguchi’s Before the Coffee Gets Cold series, acquired exciting debuts The Lantern of Lost Memories by Sanaka Hiiragi and Thirst Trap by Gráinne O’Hare, and played a lead role in the publishing of Colm Tóibín’s Long Island and Elizabeth O’Connor’s Whale Fall. King will continue to report into Mount.
Mount added: “Since joining the company three years ago, Orla has become a much-valued member of the team and a respected editor and publisher. I look forward to continuing to see her grow her career at Picador.”
The promotions all take place with immediate effect.
