Penguin Random House (PRH) Children’s will next year publish a picture book based on the middle-grade fiction title Wonder by R J Palacio.
We’re All Wonders, also written and illustrated by Palacio, is a new adventure about Auggie Pullman, the hero of the original story.
“It has always been a dream of mine to write and illustrate my own picture books in the tradition of my earliest childhood heroes: Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Beatrix Potter, Maurice Sendak, and Cicely Mary Barker,” said Palacio. “These artists influenced me greatly, and their books filled my mind with imagery that has lasted a lifetime—and inspired me to study art and become an illustrator and graphic designer long before I turned my hand to writing novels."
Natalie Doherty, commissioning editor, and Andrea MacDonald, editorial director for picture books, acquired the UK and Commonwealth rights from Meredith Miller of Trident Media. Publication is scheduled for 28th March 2017.
Wonder, first published in the UK by Doubleday, then a part of Random House Children’s Books, in 2012, has sold more than five million copies worldwide, according to PRH Children’s.
A film adaptation starring Julia Roberts will be released by Lionsgate next year.
