Penguin Random House Children’s is rebranding its Roald Dahl fiction range as part of plans to mark the centenary of his birth.
The new covers, which feature Quentin Blake’s iconic artwork, were created by Puffin Fiction’s deputy art director Katy Finch, in collaboration with the Roald Dahl Literary Estate. Paperbacks with the new covers will be available to bookshops from 11th February, with a hardback range due out later in the year.
Anna Bilson, art director at Penguin Random House Children’s, said the new covers “pull together all the publishing strands and excite readers whether discovering Roald Dahl for the first time or revisiting an old friend”.
She added: “A cover re-brand of an iconic author with so many classic titles is always an exciting challenge – the new covers needed to be different to any that have gone before, surprising, edgy and fun, yet also instantly recognisable.”
The new covers are part of plans to celebrate this year being 100 years since Dahl’s birth. The Roald Dahl estate is organising a series of events in Cardiff, Dahl’s home city, in September to mark the occasion, and publishing several new Dahl related books, including a Roald Dahl Dictionary from Oxford University Press and a collection of Dahl’s letters from John Murray.
