Penguin Random House (PRH) UK has announced that it will bring all its teams together under one roof in One Embassy Gardens, with DK moving out to PRH’s Vauxhall Bridge Road offices.
A spokesperson for PRH told The Bookseller: “Over the course of 2024, Penguin Random House UK will be bringing together all its teams in one location – Embassy Gardens; occupying floors six and seven of the building as well as the floors one to five (plus mezzanine and ground floors) which we currently occupy.
“This means that PRH UK will be moving out of Vauxhall Bridge Road. Quadrille (Hardie Grant UK) will also be moving into Embassy Gardens later in 2024 [from Southwark Street]. DK will be moving from Embassy Gardens to Vauxhall Bridge Road.”
“For PRH, this means that teams with hubs across both locations (e.g. many of our group functions) will now be based in one single location, reducing the need for travel between the two sites and creating more opportunities to bring colleagues together to build networks and relationships in person,” the spokesperson said. “Each department/division will continue to have their own workspace aligned to their ways of working.”
Last autumn DK announced a major restructure of its publishing divisions, and the creation of four new m.d. roles, and it is hoped the different premises, at Vauxhall Bridge Road, will boost its new identity.
The spokesperson said: “For DK it allows our new publishing divisions and associated teams to occupy a floor each, in which to strengthen the team’s identity and ways of working, while allowing for group collaboration and the sense of community that makes DK so special.”
“In terms of timing, moves will take place across the rest of 2024, and we’ll be working closely with colleagues to plan their new spaces and manage moves as smoothly as possible.”
Tom Weldon, PRH UK c.e.o. and Paul Kelly, DK c.e.o., said: “This marks an exciting new chapter for both Penguin Random House and DK.
“The pandemic has fundamentally changed the way we work, and we’ve all embraced the opportunities that hybrid working has presented us over the past few years.
“While working virtually has many benefits, it’s clear that the office also remains a core part of how we work, and how we come together as colleagues. With these office moves we’ll be thinking about designing our spaces to help teams get the best out of hybrid working and this new environment.”
The move of some PRH UK teams to One Embassy Gardens in Battersea was first revealed in 2018 and was completed in 2020 amid the pandemic. DK moved there from 80 Strand in 2020.
