Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare (Transworld), sold nearly 630,000 print copies in the US during its first week on sale at outlets that report to NPD BookScan, Publishers Weekly has reported.
However, according to the data, unit sales in the states increased by only 1.4% last week, and the memoir was not enough to prevent adult non-fiction sales from falling by 0.9% compared to this time last year.
In the UK, Spare’s record sales, 467,183 print copies sold in its first week, saw the print market’s overall value soar 15% week on week to £38.2m, a rise of 22% against the same week in 2022. Volume rose too to just under four million books sold, a 12% jump year on year.
Penguin Random House said Spare has sold more than 3.2 million units across print, digital and audio formats worldwide in its first week. Total US sales reached 1.6 million units. UK sales were 800,000 units. PRH Canada sold 215,000 units, and PRH Australia had sales of 64,000 units.
