Prince Harry’s autobiography Spare (Bantam) is the bestselling book on Amazon this year.
The online retailer ranks the top 20 print and e-book titles sold and pre-ordered throughout the year. Spare is followed by two cookbooks by Nathan Anthony, comprising Bored of Lunch: The Healthy Slow Cooker Book (Ebury Press) and Bored of Lunch: The Healthy Air Fryer Book (Ebury Press). The nation’s obsession with cooking and food trends continues with air fryer books, with a further four air fryer-related titles among this year’s bestselling titles.
Anthony’s books are followed by Bonnie Garmus’ Lessons in Chemistry (Doubleday) and The Last Devil to Die: The Thursday Murder Club 4 (Viking) by Richard Osman, who last year dominated the chart and came out at number one.
Pinch of Nom Enjoy by Kate and Kay Allinson (Bluebird) comes in sixth, while Guinness World Records 2024 is seventh, It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover (S&S) is eighth, The Woman in Me by Britney Spears (Gallery) ninth and Atomic Habits by James Clear (Penguin) tenth.
Meanwhile, the Harry Potter series (Bloomsbury) has claimed the top five most read spots this year, followed by Spare. The list ranks titles by the average number of daily Kindle readers and Audible listeners. Barbara Kingsolver’s Demon Copperhead (Faber) has made the top 20 for the second year in a row, along with a return from J R R Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring (HarperCollins).
Lisa de Meyer, UK books country manager at Amazon, said: “The bestselling books are always an interesting reflection of the year, and 2023 has given us an extremely eclectic mix. Whether people are looking for escapism through cosy crime, or rejoicing in how a remarkable woman takes on the world of science, or continuing to engage in conscious eating trends, our bestseller charts this year have it all."
Nielsen BookScan’s 2023 full-year bestsellers chart will be published in January.
