Bloomsbury’s Alexandra Pringle, who was named Editor of the Year at the 2022 British Book Awards, author and journalist Nesrine Malik, historian and broadcaster Alex von Tunzelmann and freelance editor Faiza Khan have launched the Silk Road Slippers Book Club.
Coinciding with the launch of their business Silk Road Slippers – “an online purveyor of distinctive textiles, jewellery and homewares from all over the world” – the book club has been “inspired by the great trade routes that shaped the modern world.”
Taking place for the first time online with Women’s Prize-winner Kamila Shamsie on 31st October at 6.30pm, each episode will see the four literary friends select a new release or classic title bimonthly and hold a virtual discussion with the author, or a guest author who loves the book, in the case of classics.
The first instalment will see Shamsie discuss her new novel Best of Friends (Bloomsbury Circus) and answer questions. In future, the four say there will also be writing masterclasses as part of Silk Road Slippers.
More information about the new business venture can be found here. Tickets for the book club can be found here.
