Profile Books is publishing two books before their scheduled publication following the announcement of the upcoming election.
Simon Kuper’s "blistering" new book on corruption in UK politics, Good Chaps, will be released on 13th June instead of 29th August, its scheduled release date. Meanwhile, the publication date for Democracy, which includes writing by Margaret Atwood, Mary Beard and Lea Ypi, will be brought forward from 27th June to 6th June.
Kuper is a columnist for the Financial Times, and the author of Chums (Profile Books). His editor, Andrew Franklin, said: "This is a book to raise everyone’s blood pressure. Good Chaps charts in shocking detail the surge of dirty money into British politics, the theft from the state by people at the top of it, the passing of the archetypal Good Chap — and what we could do about it. This book is essential reading before the next election."
Kuper commented: "When I began researching British political corruption, I couldn’t quite believe what I encountered — some of it I had to read several times. Apart from the surprising number of Russian spies, some of the characters whom I wrote about in Chums return here, but this time in an even darker guise."
On Democracy, which spotlights eleven writers on the subject, Profile publishing director Cecily Gayford added: "We’re delighted to announce that Democracy — now even more timely and important — will be available from 6th June.
"This book brings together eleven extraordinary women — writers, activists, academics and leaders — to remind us why democracy matters, and how participating in an election is one of the most profound opportunities we have to shape our world for the better."
