Anna-Marie Fitzgerald has joined John Murray Press as publicity director, working across its imprints and reporting to director of communications and trade publishing, Rosie Gailer.
Fitzgerald started her publishing career at Piatkus Books and went on to work for 15 years in the press office at Profile Books, most recently as publicity director, publicising titles across the publisher’s imprints.
She has worked with authors including Esi Edugyan, Sarah Perry, Julia Cameron, Christopher McDougall, Lucy Mangan and Oliver Bullough and more recently the 2023 Orwell-prize finalist Dr Annabel Sowemimo.
She won publicity campaign of the year at the British Book Awards in 2017 for The Essex Serpent and this year was nominated in the Hardback Non-Fiction category at the PPC Annual Awards for Butler to the World by Oliver Bullough.
In her new role, Fitzgerald will be based in Carmelite House and her autumn 2023 titles include A Theory of Everything by Michael Muthukrishna (September), More than a Game: A History of How Sport Made Britain by David Horspool (November) and stand-up comedian and former “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah’s illustrated fable Into the Uncut Grass (November).
She said: “I have had a brilliant, career-defining 15 years at Profile Books, where I publicised hundreds of books, made friends for life and was immersed in the world of independent publishing. I am now looking forward to my next chapter at John Murray Press and am thrilled to be joining the division at such an exciting time. I am looking forward to preparing for a potential-packed autumn and working with such a dazzlingly talented team and roster of hugely accomplished authors.”
