Liza DeBlock, formerly assistant at Mushens Entertainment, has been promoted into the role of foreign rights executive at the agency.
DeBlock, who has prior experience as a scout, will also be building a list of clients alongside her responsibilities of liaising with co-agents, foreign publishers and scouts to maximise translation deals. Already she has signed athlete Lia Ditton, who in 2020 set a new women's world record for rowing solo from the US mainland to Hawaii, and debut fiction writer Susan Thomson.
Agency founder Juliet Mushens said: "Liza’s background is scouting, and she has a natural affinity with that side of the business. Our international co-agents love working with her, as do we, and I’m excited for this next step in her development. We represent authors such as Richard Osman, who is publishing into 39 languages around the world, and international bestsellers such as Jessie Burton, Claire Douglas and Mary Chamberlain, so this feels like a natural progression to bring an even better service to our authors."
DeBlock said: "I am delighted to step into this new role and work even closer with our wonderful co-agents and scouts to promote our authors internationally. I am excited to add my own writers with their authentic voices and unique experiences to our list of authors. I love working at Mushens Entertainment, where I continue to learn from Juliet Mushens and Silé Edwards every day."
DeBlock is contactable at liza@mushens-entertainment.com and she will start in her new role on 1st February.
