Hodder & Stoughton has paid tribute to Scottish author and comedian Janey Godley who passed away on 2nd November at the age of 63.
Godley was a multi-award-winning comedian, playwright and bestselling author. She performed her comedy shows and one-woman play "The Point of Yes" around the world to critical acclaim, including off-Broadway in New York. She was a regular co-presenter on BBC Radio 4’s "Loose Ends" and had her own award-nominated BBC Radio 4 series, "The C Bomb", written and presented with her daughter, the writer and comedian Ashley Storrie.
She published her début novel with Hodder & Stoughton, Nothing Left Unsaid, in 2022, as well as Janey: The Woman That Won’t Shut Up, a memoir which reflected on her diagnosis of terminal cancer, earlier this year. She also recorded the audiobook of her first memoir, Handstands in the Dark, with Hodder.
Jo Dickinson, who edited Nothing Left Unsaid, commented: “Janey Godley’s wit, candour and unique voice left an indelible mark on the hearts of readers and audiences alike. All at Hodder & Stoughton extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends and millions of fans around the world.”
Godley was born in Glasgow in 1961 and lived there all her life. In 2023, she won the inaugural Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award.
